چکیده

Article history: Received 12 July 2017 Received in revised form 9 October 2017 Accepted 17 October 2017 Available online xxxx Superconductor-Ferromagnet (SF) heterostructures are of interest due to numerous phenomena related to the spin-dependent interaction of Cooper pairs with the magnetization. Here we address the effects of a magnetic insulator on the density of states of a superconductor based on a recently developed boundary condition for strongly spin-dependent interfaces. We show that the boundary to a magnetic insulator has a similar effect like the presence of magnetic impurities. In particular we find that the impurity effects of strongly scattering localized spins leading to the formation of Shiba bands can be mapped onto the boundary problem. 2017 Elsevier B.V. Topological superconductivity in a multichannel Yu-Shiba-Rusinov chain

Abstract: Chains of magnetic atoms placed on the surface of an s-wave superconductor with large spin-orbit coupling provide a promising platform for the realization of topological superconducting states characterized by the presence of Majorana zero-energy modes. In a recent work, we study the properties of onedimensional chains of Yu-Shiba-Rusinov states induced by magnetic impurities using a ...

Spin-polarized currents and noise in normal-metal/superconductor junctions with Yu-Shiba-Rusinov impurities

Conventional superconductors disordered by magnetic impurities demonstrate physical properties that are drastically different from their pristine counterparts. In our previous work [D. Persson et al., Phys. Rev. B 92, 245430 (2015)], we explored the spectral and thermodynamic properties of such systems for two extreme cases: completely random and ferromagnetically aligned impurity magnetic mome...

Effects of nonmagnetic disorder on the energy of Yu-Shiba-Rusinov states

We study the sensitivity of Yu-Shiba-Rusinov states, bound states that form around magnetic scatterers in superconductors, to the presence of nonmagnetic disorder in both two and three dimensional systems. We formulate a scattering approach to this problem and reduce the effects of disorder to two contributions: disorderinduced normal reflection and a random phase of the amplitude for Andreev r...

Mobile magnetic impurities in a Fermi superfluid: a route to designer molecules.

A magnetic impurity in a fermionic superfluid hosts bound quasiparticle states known as Yu-Shiba-Rusinov states. We argue here that, if the impurity is mobile (i.e., has a finite mass), the impurity and its bound Yu-Shiba-Rusinov quasiparticle move together as a midgap molecule, which has an unusual "Mexican-hat" dispersion that is tunable via the fermion density. We map out the impurity disper...

Impurity-induced states in conventional and unconventional superconductors

We review recent developments in our understanding of how impurities influence the electronic states in the bulk of superconductors. Our focus is on the quasi-localized states in the vicinity of impurity sites in conventional and unconventional superconductors and our goal is to provide a unified framework for their description. The non-magnetic impurity resonances in unconventional superconduc...
